Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic has competed in the 2006, 2009 and 2013 World Baseball Classic tournaments. They finished 4th in the inaugural event in 2006. In 2009, Ubaldo Jimenez set a new record for strikeouts by a starter during Round One against the Netherlands when he struck out 10 batters over four innings in Team Dominica's 2-1 loss to the Netherlands, however the 121 Dominican Republic was eliminated in the opening round. The team bounced back in 2013 and went on to win its first ever World Baseball Classic after defeating Team Puerto Rico 3-0. The Dominican Republic is currently ranked 7th overall by the IBAF.

A total of 472 Dominican-born players have gone on to play in the Majors. With more than a 100 players with Major League Clubs, the Dominican Republic contributes the most players in Major League Baseball. This includes 2008 NL MVP Albert Pujols, 2008 NL Rookie of the Year Geovany Soto and Manny Ramírez. The country has sent more foreign-born players to the Majors than any other country. There were 88 Dominican-born players on Opening Day rosters in 2008.

Baseball culture is rich in the Dominican Republic, and they never field a team that would be wise to overlook. The presence of Major League academies combined with the success and notoriety of Dominican-born players who go on to fame and fortune in Major League Baseball proves to make the country more of a baseball powerhouse than ever in the years to come.

The 2013 champions looked dominant through Pool C in Miami, emerging from that hotly contested pool a perfect 3-0. But Team USA and Puerto Rico outlasted them in San Diego to send the DR home this time around.
